What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a subtle and effective Japanese energy healing technique, which helps to re-synchronize the energy systems of the body to restore optimum health. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy”. Reiki is the universal life energy that flows through all living things. When our life force energy is low or weak it can become blocked, impacting our well-being and personal health, leading to symptoms of physical or emotional imbalance.

Reiki treats the whole person, working on the mental, physical, and emotional level. It keeps energy from becoming stagnant, which can impede emotional connection to life and helps stimulate the body’s own natural healing ability. This helps to bring the body back into balance by increasing our life force energy, breaking up energetic blockages and releasing the built-up toxins. It also helps to release tension and stress, unwanted emotion, encourage relaxation, and bring about feelings of peace, security, and well-being.

What are the Possible Benefits?

Although everyone’s own body will dictate how it will choose to balance, here are some of the possible health benefits of Reiki:

  • Promotes natural self-healing

  • Clears Toxins

  • Releases blocked and suppressed feelings

  • Opens up creativity blocks

  • Calms emotions and helps lift anxiety, depression, anger, sadness and fear

  • Promotes stress reduction and relaxation

  • Support in recovery from illness and pain

  • Increased energy levels

  • Deepened awareness

  • Provides more vitality and a sense of well-being

  • Improved sleep and digestion

  • Strengthening of the immune system

  • Release of accumulated daily stress

Who can benefit from Reiki?

Reiki is suitable and safe for people regardless of age, gender, ethnic background or religion. Reiki is also safe during pregnancy. All living organisms can benefit from Reiki. Reiki is not a substitute for medical treatment. It is complementary with other medical treatments, healing modalities and therapies, and may speed healing and recovery time from injury or illness.

What to Expect During a Session

The client relaxes comfortably on a massage table, fully clothed with their shoes removed, while Reiki is administered through specific hand positions placed either on or above the body. Loose, comfortable clothing is recommended. If a client prefers not to be touched, they can indicate this to the practitioner prior to the start of the session.

Each Reiki treatment is unique and everyone will have a different experience.

It is advised to approach each session with the mindset of being open and willing to receive Reiki healing energy. If there is an area that is functioning less than optimally, whether it is on the mental, physical, emotional or spiritual level, Reiki will flow to this area. With each session, Reiki will move the body to its unique place of balance.

During the treatment some clients may feel temperature changes (hot or cold) in different areas of their body, tingling, pulsing or nothing besides deep relaxation. As Reiki energy encourages one to let go of all tension, anxiety, fear or other negative feelings, a state of peace and well-being may be experienced.

Most people find the treatment very soothing, relaxing and some people will even fall asleep. At the end of the treatment, one usually feels refreshed with a more positive, balanced outlook.

How often do I need a Session?

The number of sessions required will vary depending on wellness goals and/or the complexity of condition.

For an introduction to Reiki, a series of 4-6 sessions scheduled once every week or two is highly recommended.

After the introduction treatments, at least one Reiki session a month is recommended for regular maintenance, relaxation, rebalancing and reenergizing. Regular, ongoing Reiki sessions are best when someone wishes to work on a specific issue or health concern.

Connect with your body’s own natural healing ability.
